Developed by the Heart & Stroke Foundation, ACLS is an intermediate course in CPR. Over the course, you’ll receive training in how to diagnose and administer care to adult patients in cardiac and respiratory arrest. The beginner course Basic Life Support (BLS) is a prerequisite for this more advanced class, but students can take their BLS with us the same day as they take ACLS if necessary.
At Calgary Emergency Education, we specialize in offering courses for all medical professionals and students. Any Calgarians working or training as a nurse, physician, paramedic, or dentist can benefit from the skills and training offered in ACLS. Recently, we’ve also seen more LPNs and dental assistants showing interest in advanced cardiac life support, and we’re happy to welcome them or anyone else who is interested in further their knowledge.
ACLS is a 13 hour course. You will be given a few hours of work to do from home before attending the full day class. Health care providers need to renew this course every 2 years, and students who are renewing finish earlier in the day, but are invited to stay longer if they want the extra practice and exposure to the latest news and updates to best practices. We’re proud to say many of our students choose to renew with us again and again. Our 4:1 student:instructor ratio means everyone receives the individual attention they need. If you have any questions or just need someone to confidently affirm you’re doing a technique correctly, someone is available to answer immediately. You’ll also find male and female dummies to practice on. Studies have shown that women are less likely to receive CPR from qualified bystanders, so it’s important to have an opportunity to practice on both body types.
