What Kind of Life Support Courses do We Offer? - Calgary Emergency Education - Health Care Courses Calgary

Calgary Emergency Education is proud to offer high quality training to healthcare providers in emergency medicine. Due to the diverse and varied nature of our life support courses, it becomes easy to mix up all the acronyms and get confused as to what each course offers. We’ve compiled an overview of our most prominent courses to help you find the one that’s right for your needs.

Basic Life Support (BLS)

This is your basic course in CPR, where you’ll learn the tools you need to potentially save someone’s life someday. CPR is used in emergency cardiac arrest situations to increase a victim’s chance of survival. We specialize in offering renewal courses for trained medical professionals, but are also more than happy to train those in the community who may benefit from it. If you work as a lifeguard, fitness instructor, or volunteer at shelters or as a scout leader, this course is for you!

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

A more intensive, intermediate level course in CPR. You’ll learn more advanced skills to allow you to, among other things, properly assess and manage a victim’s airway, understand emergency pharmacology, and interpret electrocardiograms. This course is mainly directed towards those in the healthcare field, including doctors, nurses, and paramedics, who will also need to renew their course regularly.

Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support for Experienced Providers (ACLS-EP)

An advanced course in CPR. You’ll be exposed to complex problems in cardiovascular and respiratory pathways which require quick thinking. The ability to critically analyze a situation and come up with a decision in the heat of the moment will be emphasized. Moreover, you’ll understand proper post-cardiac arrest support and learn how to communicate and work with a resuscitation team. To enroll in this course, healthcare providers must be seasoned veterans in BLS and ACLS. Successfully completing this course will result in a certificate that’s valid for 2 years.
